Not entirely true, the defile 38/28 spec for mages dropped significantly. I think it's still a dps increase over the 36/30 spec, but it's probably not "worth" the extra effort that it takes to pull good dps from it. Although, I guess I'll leave it up to Inori + other mages out there to tell.
Yes, you are right that dps dropped due to the warlock crystal change, but it is still a dps reduction either way compared to 1.6. The question is, "is 38/28 worth using in a raid anymore?" My guess is yes, but it's definitely not as rewarding as it used to be for the effort put in.
